Given my fondness for using theme songs in my mashups, it should surprise no one that the theme from The Lone Ranger recently came to my memory. I was initially hoping to get my hands on a copy of the theme song from the TV show or even the cartoon series, but Hans Zimmer’s version of the William Tell Overture from the 2013 movie was more than adequate.
Unlike some other theme songs I’ve worked with, a match didn’t immediately come to mind. I was thinking that I’d have to temporarily shelve this idea, but as I looked at some of my other ones, Pat Benatar’s most well-known song arose as a candidate for this mashup. In hindsight, I’m very glad that I chose it; her song’s structure fits neatly with that of the overture. Heck, I was even able to include the overture’s climactic ending.
I can honestly say that I’m proud of the mashups I’ve done so far this year, but I won’t be surprised if this one ends up on my 2015 favourites list.
